Editing Levistor

Levistor has gained a license to patented, flywheel energy storage technology, which is being further developed to enable electric vehicles to get 100 miles of charge in 5 minutes. Their plan is to produce a modular, easy to install solution, that will enable ultra-fast charging countrywide; from rural countryside garages to urban coffee shops.

We at Levistor have developed patented, flywheel energy storage technology through our time together at City University, London. Levistor now holds the license to facilitate the commercialisation of this technology. The unique design allows the flywheel to spin faster than the speed of sound levitating on magnetic bearing technology.

By 2030, nearly all new vehicles will be electric but according to a survey by Kwikfit, the no.1 thing stopping motorists switching to an EV is a lack of fast charge points & subsequent range anxiety. Therefore, significant investment into the world's grid infrastructure is needed; in the UK alone, this could be up to £45B.

We plan to install our flywheels near new EV charging points; charge from the grid when there are no cars, before discharging them into the fast-charge EV's on arrival. The aim is to charge in 5 minutes (300kW), rather than the 30 minutes (50kW), which is currently considered fast.

- Highways England has supported the core technology with a grant of £880k.

- 2 patent families covering the UK, Europe, Japan and China (pending in US).

The technology was tested at City University and the Levistor test facilities using a 37kW flywheel. We are now currently building a 100kW demonstrator unit.

We're raising funds to build prototypes to prove the product in a commercial setting & work to secure advance orders for our production machines.

Matt Journee, CEO (co-founder)

Matt is a Chartered Engineer with extensive experience of taking products developed in university labs and turning them into a marketable product. Previously a partner at Powerhouse ventures and CEO at CropLogic.

Tom Andrews, Commercial Director (co-founder)

Tom has previous experience as an entrepreneur having founded and then sold his own business (Epona clothing). Tom was Commercial Manager at Dynamic Boosting Systems before founding Levistor.

Ivan Roitch, Engineering Lead (co-founder)

Ivan is experienced in high-speed machines, engineering simulation and high-performance computing.

Prof Keith Pullen, CTO (co-founder, part time)

Keith is Professor of Energy Systems at City, University of London and is the inventor of the Levistor flywheel. His research work develops energy technology that will make a meaningful contribution to the global environment. Keith is a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellow.
