IdeaEdit

UK homebrewing is growing rapidly. ~2m people brew beer/make wine at home; kit sales have rocketed over lockdown.

I’ve brewed for years. In shared houses, flats & railway arches. From ‘just add water kits’, to pro setups. I’ve realised homebrewing in London is hard! Tiny flats; expensive kit & there's no help when things go wrong!

So I returned to school, & discovered ‘Brew on Premises’ in the USA & Canada; open-access breweries where anyone can brew. Mash Paddle Brewery was born.

A gym for brewers. All of the kit. No up-front costs or space requirements.

For a monthly fee, we'll provide members with access to professional kit, guidance, ingredients & a community who share the same passion - to create unique brews that you can’t buy off the shelf.

Our membership subscription model has been designed to generate sustainable MRR, supplemented by transactional rev generated by selling ingredients, experiences & beer.

Milestones:

  • Winner of the City LaunchLab CitySpark “People’s Choice” & Santander Scholarship
  • Collaboration planned with leading London cheesemaker to create ‘beer & cheese’ experience
  • Raised £10.9k on Crowdfunder
  • First commercial brewer identified & interested in a pilot

Raising for our 1st, fully-kitted site (potential site identified on Bermondsey Beer Mile) & build a taproom serving fresh beer brewed on-site. Join us & together we will help London Brew Great Beer!

TeamEdit

At Mash Paddle Brewery we are passionate about two things: social inclusion and brewing great beer.

Our social mission is to help ex-offenders and the NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or training) population within our local area, through training and apprenticeship programmes. Providing positions from taproom assistants, brewing assistants all the way through to master brewers, a level 4 apprenticeship qualification.

With initial funding from the Forward Trust, we are in early stage conversations with the Ministry of Justice’s New Futures Network, who broker partnerships between prisons and employers. With over 60,000 people leaving prison each year in the UK, and studies showing that employment post-conviction is proven to reduce re-offending rates by ~23%, Mash Paddle Brewery aims to help break the cycle of re-offending.
