On December 5, 1947 in Żnin, he was arrested by the communist Security Office. After a brutal investigation in October 1950, the Military District Court in Warsaw sentenced him to four death sentences and 33 years' imprisonment. On March 1, 1951, he was murdered with a shot to the back of the head in the Mokotów prison.
In 1992, the Court of the Warsaw Military District in Warsaw issued a decision annulling the judgment of 1951. The court had no doubts that Lazarowicz's activities were aimed at regaining independence by Poland.
